The Ahlbecker Church is a Protestant church from 1895 on the island of Usedom. It is a listed building and is closely linked to the development of the Ahlbeck seaside resort. The church was donated by Johann Koch and is an example of the historicist style with elements of neo-Gothic. With its pointed barrel wooden ceiling spanning the room, it looks like a large, upside-down ship. The cantor Johann Koch spent three decades collecting donations for its construction. The interior decoration focuses on the altar and the sandstone cross. The apse of the neo-Gothic church is characterized by three stained glass windows in Art Nouveau decor. The two festive chandeliers and the “Homecoming” votive ship donated by retired Greifswald pastor Gerhard Dallmann give the room a special charisma. The church has been restored several times. The organ was built in 1895 by Barnim Grüneberg. Events take place regularly in the church.

The Church in the Forest is a red brick church on the Kulm in Heringsdorf on the island of Usedom. It was built in the historicist style and belongs to the Protestant parish of Heringsdorf. A special feature of the church is the Star of David on the church tower clock. Together with the church in Ahlbeck, it was built in the 19th century as a result of spa tourism. The money for the construction of the church came from donations from citizens and wealthy bathers. The architect Ludwig Persius designed the building. The foyer and the narrow bell tower, which are unique in Pomerania, are reminiscent of Italian church buildings like those built by Persius in Potsdam. The church, consecrated in 1848, initially belonged to the parish of Benz, but was later merged with other communities. In 1914 the long sides were expanded and wooden galleries were added. The altar, pulpit and baptismal font date from the time it was built. A painting on the left choir wall shows the Lamentation of Christ. Special features are the stained glass windows with biblical scenes and the wooden figure of Martin Luther on the left in the choir, which was brought here after the war by refugees from the Christ Church in Świnoujście. The organ dates from 1851 and was expanded in 1914. The church has two bronze bells from 1990. The Church in the Forest is an important religious and architectural monument and can be visited.

The Stella Maris Catholic Church in Heringsdorf is located on the edge of the forest above Bülowstrasse and is part of the Caritas senior center. There has been a Catholic chapel here since 1929, which was initially housed in the villa “Stella Maris”. In 1975 a larger chapel was built and after the fall of the Wall, the Stella Maris senior center was built with a new chapel. This was inaugurated in 2000 and impresses with its tent-like architecture with skylight pyramid. The altar table, wall cross, tabernacle, lectern, baptismal font and Easter candle holder are made of Kiefersfeld marble. In addition to the regular church services, various events and activities take place in the Stella Maris Church.

The Bansin forest church is located on the western edge of the town in the forest. It was inaugurated on February 12, 1939 and is the youngest Protestant church on the island of Usedom. The parish of Bansin was founded in 1927 and includes the seaside resort of Bansin and the village of Bansin. Both places originally belonged to the Benz parish. The hall of the church with the slender bell tower is somewhat hidden in the forest on the edge of the seaside resort of Bansin. The forest church is unusually south-facing. The design of the church is based on the no longer existing Kreuzkirche in Świnoujście. Particular highlights are the striking stained glass windows with the Evangelists and Martin Luther. In the Waldkirche there is a carved altar cross and a wooden Credo triptych by the former pastor Alexander Neumann. He was a pastor in Bansin from 1975 to 1995. The Bansin Forest Church is not only a place of reflection and prayer, but also an event location on the island of Usedom. With its unique location and architecture, it is definitely worth a visit.
