The municipality of Ostseebad Heringsdorf is a beautiful municipality on the island of Usedom. It is located in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district and has around 8400 residents. The Imperial Baths are known as a popular travel destination with over 3,9 million overnight stays per year. This makes us the largest tourism community in the tourist region of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The finest kilometer-long sandy beach, certification as an air, health and relaxation resort and a wide range of event and cultural offerings speak for us as a place to live and work.

Since the end of 2024, we, the municipality of Ostseebad Heringsdorf, have had our own program to promote new contract medical practices as well as practices in the health-related sector with a total funding amount of up to €50.000 per year.
We provide comprehensive support and assistance. Mayor Dr. Marisken and the head of the office, Ms. Fischer-Terhaag, are your personal contacts. Whether you need help connecting with local doctors, communicating with the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVMV), searching for practice space or an apartment, daycare, or social and cultural activities, we are there for you! Through external experts, we offer cost-neutral consulting services on topics such as funding programs, project management, relocation, succession, innovative operating models and cooperation models, infrastructure, and work-life balance.

What to expect
Theodor Fontane wrote a letter to his wife in 1863 during his stay in Heringsdorf: “…one has peace and fresh air and these two things fill the nerves, heart and lungs with a quiet bliss”. In summary - the community of Ostseebad Heringsdorf is worth living in, modern and original.
While the imperial baths of Ahlbeck, Bansin and Heringsdorf are located on the bright, fine sandy Baltic Sea beach, the districts are embedded in an attractive lake and natural landscape. The nearest large cities are Świnoujście in Poland and the Hanseatic city of Greifswald. The unique spa architecture, which is impressively displayed throughout the entire place, is unmistakable. Modern, stylish and historic hotel and guesthouse buildings, renovated train stations, residential areas and housing estates with a special quality of life, attractive shops and restaurants also characterize the townscape.
For general practitioners
There are currently vacant general practice positions available in our community. The attractive and proven lucrative opportunity for immediate practice establishment exists. We are eligible for various support programs offered by the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVMV), such as practice start-up seminars and financial assistance for setting up a practice. We are happy to assist with the application process and establish personal contact with the KVMV.
Our practicing physicians are also looking forward to meeting you and are happy to help you get started. We meet regularly and exchange ideas. This makes starting a new career with a great and close-knit network of colleagues easier! Perhaps you would like to join an existing medical practice? In addition to assistance with setting up a new practice/branch, there are also several options for working in an existing practice. Whether full-time or part-time – we have solutions for every number of hours. We would be happy to help you connect with them!

Every day, several thousand Polish citizens commute to our community for professional reasons. They are insured in Germany and are waiting for treatment from you! Treatment can be provided in the Polish national language. There is already a Polish doctor who can provide you with a network and make your start easier.

The community is in constant communication with the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians MV (KVMV) and is strongly supported by the Ministry of Social Affairs of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. There is a lively personal dialogue at management level with comprehensive information between the ministry, KVMV and the municipality, especially on the topic of applying for special needs allocations. This means we can provide you with comprehensive and good support when applying for a special needs allocation.

Then we would like to support you on the path to special needs allocation! Due to the proximity to the border and the urban German-Polish area, you have great advantages when applying for a high-quality special needs allocation from us on site.
Support in the recognition process for European doctors
There is a close network between the community and the German one Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians MV (KVMV), the Lagus and the Ministry of Social Affairs of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. We will support you at all levels of the recognition process! The aim is to achieve recognition of your license in an accelerated procedure. We also assure you of our support in language qualification.

Why Heringsdorf?
The community offers ideal conditions for setting up your own practice location, founding and co-designing a MVZ or even taking over existing, established premises. There is a risk of shortages in primary care in the future, and the shortage of specialists is also increasing regionally. According to surveys and statistics, the municipality of Ostseebad Heringsdorf is an economically attractive practice location.
Four rehabilitation clinics, a spa center in the OstseeTherme Usedom, four pharmacies, two resident spa doctors, five general practitioners, seven dentists and seven other specialists are looking forward to motivated, new colleagues.
The Kaiserbäder has a primary school, a comprehensive school, 5 daycare centers, successful sports clubs and excursion opportunities in the nature park with lots of forest and water.
