While life bustles along the promenade in the historic seaside resorts of the Kaiserbäder, you’ll find incredible peace and quiet right “next door” in the spa and healing forest. Since 2015, the Kaiserbäder on the island of Usedom have been harnessing the power of the forest for people’s health through their project “Europe’s First Spa and Healing Forest.” In addition to the beneficial climatic conditions—the result of the unique combination of sea and forest air—the Spa and Healing Forest has a few surprises in store for its guests: varied terrain, integrated stations, and historic sites. The trails over hill and dale are interspersed here and there with motor skills or sensory trails and pass through historic sites.

Mandy KnuthNordic Walking
Walking rhythmically along the beach toward the sun—with a pole in each hand: Nordic walking in the Kaiserbäder combines exercise with fresh Baltic Sea air and a varied coastal landscape. While walking primarily trains the leg muscles and endurance, the targeted use of poles also engages the arms, shoulders, and back. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced walker—the Nordic walking trails in Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf, and Bansin, ranging from about four to 20 kilometers in length, offer suitable routes for different fitness levels. The trails lead along the Baltic Sea, through the coastal forest, and through the charming natural scenery of Usedom. This makes Nordic walking an active experience in nature and the ideal combination of exercise, relaxation, and the healthy Baltic Sea climate.
Climate Hike
Whether it’s a stroll along the seashore or a climate walk between the piers—being active on the Baltic Sea combines the experience of nature with the unique benefits of the coastal climate. Wind, temperature, sunshine, and sea spray provide natural climatic stimuli, while walking strengthens muscles, boosts circulation, and improves endurance.
A climate hike in the Kaiserbäder specifically combines physical activity with the Baltic Sea climate. Various routes along the beach, the promenade, or through the coastal forest allow you to tailor your hike to your fitness level and well-being. Sunlight also supports the body’s natural production of vitamin D. This makes a climate hike on Usedom a soothing combination of physical activity, fresh sea air, and mindful relaxation.
Iodine brine
Heringsdorf iodine brine comes from the only brine spring in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is a special, locally sourced remedy used in the Kaiserbäder. Extracted from a depth of 408 meters, the 4-percent brine contains valuable mineral salts and is used therapeutically to treat various ailments. These include, among others, skin and respiratory conditions, as well as metabolic and digestive disorders. The iodine brine on Usedom can be used both internally and externally—for example, in the form of brine baths, inhalations, or drinking brine. This makes it an important part of the health and healing tradition of the Kaiserbäder.

At the Kaiserbäder, sunbathers and water lovers alike will find what they’re looking for. While the sun shines on the island for an average of 2,000 hours a year, the Baltic Sea offers the opportunity for balneological treatments. The composition of fresh Baltic Sea water largely corresponds to that of human blood. The trace elements and minerals from the sea—found both in the water and in the air—are absorbed through the skin and respiratory tract, thereby having a positive effect on countless ailments. In addition to seawater, the Heringsdorf iodine brine is also a natural healing source. It is extracted as a 4.1-percent sodium chloride solution from a depth of 408 meters and, unlike Baltic Sea water, is also used for internal applications.

Whether it’s climate hiking, Nordic walking, a sports beach, or an active promenade—exercising in the fresh air, combined with the positive effects of climate factors and surf aerosols, strengthens the immune system, muscles, and endurance. While you can strengthen your body on your own in our open-air fitness studios, team play is encouraged on the sports beach with beach soccer, volleyball, and beach tennis. If you’d like to take part in a class—such as yoga, beach gymnastics, abs-legs-glutes, or back fitness—you’re also in good hands here at the sports beach. These classes, with fine sand beneath your feet, are available all summer long. At the OstseeTherme Usedom , the fitness center offers aqua fitness, Body-Fit, and Cross-Workout year-round.

After a workout at the gym or some fun at the water park, you can relax at the OstseeTherme Usedom is also a wonderful way to unwind in the saunas or with a massage. Of course, you can also relax by lounging in a beach chair or taking a stroll along the promenade or through the spa and healing forest. The latter, in particular, offers a number of health benefits: A hike beneath the tree canopy strengthens the respiratory system, circulation, and mental well-being, among other things.
