People's Observatory "Manfred von Ardenne"

The observatory on the dune in Heringsdorf was built in 1960 at the suggestion of the physicist and technician Manfred von Ardenne, who gave the community a 10-inch reflecting telescope as a gift. This gave guests to the seaside resort the opportunity to get to know the starry sky under expert guidance during an evening tour. The roof of the observatory consists of two halves that can be moved off to the side.

Guided Tours

Tours start at different times depending on when darkness falls and last about an hour. Orientation in the sky is explained using the most important constellations. Depending on the view, different objects are shown in the telescope - the moon, planets, binary stars, gas nebulae and galaxies.

The dates of the evening tours can be found on the Website . Tours only take place when the sky is clear.

Photos and animation

Sometimes you don't need much to take photos of space; a simple camera with a tripod is often enough. If that's not enough, you can look much deeper into space using the telescope at the People's Observatory, allowing you to take breathtaking photos.
