A journey into the sound world of the greatest of all string instruments
Transformed into full concert length Jaspar Libuda the double bass into a solo instrument with tones reminiscent of cello, percussion and guitar. His compositions such as "Veiled Magic", "The Birth of Silent Colors" and "Shadow Park" form the soundtrack to an imaginary film with bright and dark themes. The music develops from silence to sonority, from improvisation to arrangement, from rock motifs to simple, country-like melodies.
Melodic bowing and chord-related plucking techniques seem to lift the heaviness of the instrument. Deep bass lines give the double bass its weight back. A state of suspension between styles and genres. A border crossing between jazz, rock, pop, minimal music, classical and wall of sound.
Jaspar Libuda's current solo CD "Gideon" exerts a fascinating attraction through its simplicity. In his new solo compositions, Jaspar Libuda takes an equally fascinating but different path. With double bass and electronics, he builds an entire ensemble in front of his listeners' ears, layers surfaces and rhythms on top of each other, weaves melodies and silence into a fairytale world of sound, simultaneously melancholic and full of joie de vivre.
