Neoclassical Compositions at the Interface of Film Music and Gregorian Chant
Jaspar Libuda: Composition, five-string double bass, loop station, live electronics
Jaspar Libuda's compositions are classical soundscapes, musical stories without words, a declaration of love for the melody and the deep feelings it can evoke. A combination of virtuoso double bass art and electroacoustic music. Using a five-string double bass with a high C string that was specially built for him, live electronics and a loop station, Jaspar Libuda creates an entire ensemble before the ears of his audience. He layers surfaces and rhythms on top of each other, weaving melodies and silence into a dense world of sound, simultaneously melancholic and full of joie de vivre.
A state of suspension between styles and genres. A border crossing between classical, jazz, rock, pop and minimal music. With timbres reminiscent of cello, percussion, guitar and oud. Almost 100 compositions have been created in recent years. In the compositions of his new and third solo album "The Book of Dreams" Jaspar Libuda expresses his love for minimal music and Gregorian chant in equal measure. He creates spaces in which time seems to expand from a fraction of a moment into a universe of sonic possibilities.
“Libuda’s pieces develop a pull that is difficult to escape.”
